Dairy Shorthorn

The Shorthorn Society is proud to be the custodian of the world's oldest cattle herd book, the Coates Herd book.

As we enter our third century the breed is well equipped to meet the challenges facing modern dairy farming.

Dairy Shorthorns have all the credentials for sustainable systems that utilise grazed grass and minimise carbon footprint. The breed is noted for high fertility, excellent mobility and a robust constitution which all adds up to an animal with enhanced longevity, lower veterinary inputs and lower replacement costs.

The Dairy Shorthorn is docile and easily handled. She is highly adaptable to a range of farming systems and is particularly well suited to organic and low input regimes.
